Welcome to Ocean Class
All of the Year 4 and Year 5 children are in Ocean Class. The main class teacher is Mrs McCall. Mrs Higgs teaches in Ocean Class on a Monday morning. The teaching assistants are Mrs Greenland and Mrs Frewer (who both work between Woodland and Ocean Class) and Miss Ryan (who splits her time between all the classes).

Welcome back to the Autumn term, I hope you all had a fabulous summer break!

Our topic this term is called ‘A Tale of Two Settlements’ and we are looking at Barcelona. We are comparing it to where we live and also to the village of Alquezar in Spain. We will explore Spanish culture and complete some detailed map work studying the different landscapes. Alongside this topic we are looking at a new DT project looking at pneumatics.
Later in the term we will be studying forces and mechanisms – during this project, children revisit prior learning about forces and discuss the two types: contact and non-contact forces. They learn about gravity and observe it in action alongside learning about water and air resistance.
Our class reader this half term is “Who Let the Gods Out” by Maz Evans which is one of my all time
favourites – the class are loving all of the crazy characters and the even crazier storyline.
We have started with a new English writing scheme this term, so have been enjoying immersing ourselves in “The Whale” by Ethan and Vita Murrow. We have used lots of drama activities to bring this wordless book to life and are looking
forward to writing our own version of the story.
What a busy half term it is already shaping up to be! We have lots to look forward to including the residential to Leeson House for our Year 5’s.

What a fabulous week we have had! We all got in the carnival spirit by thinking about what it would be like to be in Barcelona during carnival time. We played Catalan music and enjoyed some tasty Tapas. We have completed our Gaudi inspired art, which was harder than it looked! In addition to all this, we had great fun cycling through the school to raise money for Little Lives. It was such fun, we want to do it every week!
